What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday? #242

P1030354

Not a whole lot happening when this was taken on Tuesday afternoon. A distinct lack of light again. I was in the middle of clearing the decks, ready to begin kitting (not knitting!) for class today. To the left, a skirt pattern and a quilting book, for two projects on the go. To the right, the favourite game of the moment.

I decided it was best to keep things simple for my first foray back into dress making. It’s been a while. I had such great plans last year and then I couldn’t quite seem to get started. I bought one or two patterns and then couldn’t find the *perfect* fabric for them. I bought some a lot of fabric and then didn’t know what to make it into. Please tell me I’m not alone in this. No? OK then. Time to stop procrastinating.

I’ll be linking up with Julia before I head out and round to visit when I get home. Have a great day.

Sweet fabric, perfect for a quick Jupe, non?! I think sewing clothes, contemplating a quilt and running classes is probably at the edge of my creative budget...your head must be swimming! No doubt though, that one area of creativity kicks starts another in my experience, so you're probably in for a really rich year.

Fabric for dress making is really difficult to find. We used to be able to pop into our local shop and have many to choose from in many different colours but now it's really hard to find anything. Lots of craft fabric but rarely anything that flows and doesn't crease....don't get me started lol

Ooh, I Spy that Jelly Roll quilting book! I'm at the point of wanting to start with mine because the colours are so gorgeous. I'm just not sure what I'm going to do yet!
And clothes sewing..shiver...you are brave! I'm not precise enough to tackle that one. I remember you bought some fabric and cotton in Salisbury for clothing...or am I remembering wrong? Wouldn't be the first time!

That is a lovely ditsy print you have there - looks as if it would make a nice skirt. Yes, I am similarly frustrated at the lack of dress fabrics, and keep meaning to hunt out a specialist shop in a fifty mile radius! Your desk is nevertheless full of creative promise :).

Very pretty fabric and will make a lovely skirt. Used to do a lot of sewing, back on the good old days. Mainly because I never had any money then so it was a case of needs must.
My first sewing machine was a manual turning one, now I have an all singing, all dancing one and it hardly gets used.
Dont forget to show us the finished skirt.

I like quilting and dollmaking but sewing clothes was never my strong suit. Stuff never hung right. Not sure if it was my sewing or my body that was the problem LOL! Have fun!

Well, best of luck with it! Looking at the front of patterns always makes me think of school needlework..when I was ten I made a smock top out of a liberty fabric very like that one. It's a beautiful print

Beautiful fabric! So feminine! I used to sew a lot many years ago. Seems cardmaking has taken over now. Hope it works out for you. Thanks for visiting and Happy WOYWW!

Let's face it Fi, you know me and you know just how good I am at procrastinating lol.

Good luck with your dressmaking, I think it's a good idea to start back with something simple and take it slow. I did that with my skirt and it reignited my love again.

By the way ... I have that jelly roll book too. ( and a half finished project from it) lol

Your post makes me wish I could sew (not even a button!).. I adore quilts and lovely handmade items, and can picture myself stumped if I could sew what I would want to tackle. Love the lovely print fabric you have there! Winnie#68

I know what you mean--I bought three or four patterns last year and didn't make any of them! I need to get inspired again and at least make a couple of things for summer. Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #80

You'll have to share it with us once finished! It is an area of crafting that I fail dismally in. I once sewed a project we were doing at school to my skirt! Yep. Much to the amusement of my BFF. She still reminds me of it now!! Take care Zo xx 59

That is a sweet pattern on the fabric. And the same goes for the embossed card (love that SU folder)!

Hi Fiona, I have an enormous box of patterns, that I tell myself I will make one day. That one day has not arrived yet though! Love that scrap of embossed card with the cloud pattern. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #33 xx

I've bought fabric before because it will be perfect to make something from... never quite worked out what though and it still sits unloved in a box :) One day, some when...

It's so much easier to buy a bunch of fabric, with dreamy ideal visions in our heads, than it is to sit down and actually make something from it.

Have fun sewing!

I haven't sewen in ages. The last things, besides mending, and cards, were pillows for my living room. I used to love to hand quilt.
Beautiful fabric. I still have weakness for fabric, and even have purchased quarters to use on cards.

Lovely fabric - hope we see the finished skirt. I find finding the right fabric really difficult. Lots of fabric online but I need to touch and test what I buy! x Jo

Lovely fabric, Fiona. Go for it - that skirt pattern is great. When my girls were young I made almost everything wee all wore - even made hubby's trousers and a three piece suit - the machine doesn't get quite so much use now....
Have a great industrious week.
