What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday #117

You’re going to have to use your imagination a bit this week, as I can’t share a photo due to some technical difficulties. Somehow I have managed to lose my camera lead since last Wednesday and despite turning the house upside down, it does not want to be found.

Regular visitors will know what my desk looked like last week and to be honest it doesn’t look very different today. The cats have been finished and are piled up to one side along with a Circle Journal, wrapped and ready for posting. In the middle are the leftovers from a birthday card and a scrapbook page. To the right is the latest issue of Mollie Makes and an envelope full of name tapes waiting to be sewn into new school uniform.

I can’t share the LO, but these are the photos I used on it.

These lions were placed around Bath last summer and we had a very enjoyable day hunting them all down.

I’ll be clearing it all away later to make a start on a couple of back to school projects. I have a niece and nephew who will be starting secondary school next week and I’m going to make them a little notebook each, to go with their Good Luck card.

If you want to see actual photos of other people’s desks, then you’ll find them all over at Julia’s.

Five Things I’m Loving This Friday ~ Back To School

One more week of school holidays here for us and my thoughts are turning to all the things that will be needed for the start of term. The uniform has been ordered, the shoe shopping is always left for the last week and there will be a little trip into town for new pencils and pens. The latter being my favourite part, as a self confessed stationery addict.

This week I have put together a list of things I would have been very happy to have in my possession to go back to school.

A pencil case

a locker key fob

a sketch book

a note book

….and of course a bag to put it all in.

What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday #116

It’s the fifth week of the summer holidays and still not much crafting happening around here. I did find time yesterday to cut some shapes for a decorated chipboard swap I’m taking part in.

I did the actual embossing on a glass mat in the kitchen. I’ve had too many other mishaps in the past, when using the heat gun at my desk, warped cutting mats being the main casualties! I thought I had been so careful with the powder, but when I turned the hob light on, to cook the dinner, it revealed a very glittery worktop. Oops!

I’m off to Julia’s place to see what everyone else has been up to this week.

Five Things I’m Loving This Friday ~ Crochet

It would seem I’m not quite ready to leave the rainbows behind. I had one left on my list last week, that would have made Six Things I’m Loving This Friday, which doesn’t quite have the same ring to it! I decided to make this week’s theme all things woolly, so it would fit in here instead.

If you’ve never visited Lucy’s lovely blog before, then you are in for a treat. She has made so many gorgeous blankets and a multitude of other colourful projects, including this rainbow striped bag.

Lucy has decorated her bag with some little flowers and there are many tutorials out there, but I’m quite fond of this spiral rose.

Now I know that this is August, but it has been positively autumnal here this week, so I thought a pattern for a light and lacy scarf might be just the thing.

These little monsters are just so cute and look fairly simple to make even for a beginner like me. Those rainbows just keep cropping up!

And finally….just because I love Dr Seuss and this made me laugh!

Have a great weekend xx

What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday #115

Well I totally missed last Wednesday, in fact I think I may have lost a couple of days last week, but here I am, back again.

My desk is full of everything I used to make a scrapbook page for my daughter’s album and a few things I didn’t. If you’re wondering how I actually work, when there is clearly no space left to work in, well that’s where my ironing board comes in. I prefer to scrap standing up and I can adjust the ironing board to the perfect height. What else would I use it for anyway?

I need to add the date and some journalling, but otherwise it’s done. I also have have some tiny gems to stick along the bottom edge of the crown, but I seem to have misplaced them for the moment. The page was inspired by the Starting Point Challenge from Shimelle’s online crop last weekend.

For more desks head on over to Julia’s place.

Five Things I’m Loving This Friday ~ Rainbows

It’s been a bit of a sad week around here, with the loss of an old school friend and the terrible news of riots all around the country. I decided we could all do with some colour in our lives.

I just loved this little dress as soon as I saw it. It’s made from old t-shirts in all the colours of the rainbow and wouldn’t it just brighten any day?

Paper beads are always fun to make and I like the glittery effect on these.

An assortment of colourful fabric scraps are all you need to make this appliqued rainbow t-shirt.

This colourful garland has been made by stitching together punched shapes.

The last one isn’t something to make, but it’s pretty cool all the same. A flip book that creates a rainbow in your hand.

Couldn’t we all do with one of those sometimes.

Five Things I’m Loving This Friday ~ Holiday Fun Part 2

Because there is always room for more fun during the Summer holidays, here are a few more ideas.

Finger puppets. There is a tutorial here showing how to make the pig and you can use the photos for inspiration to make lots of other animals.

Of course you’ll be wanting a theatre to put on your show. This one is made from a simple cardboard box.

I love this playmat made from a shower curtain. You can personalise it by drawing your own town and then let the children go wild with Sharpies and crayons.

We seem to be going through 4 pints of milk almost daily at the moment, so a craft that uses the empty plastic bottles has to be a good thing.

Both my children love to read and when it’s time for lights out, the bookmark can never be found. We’ll be making a supply of these I think.

Have fun if you try any of these ideas.

What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday #113

Another week, another desk shot. Lot’s more of them to be seen over at Julia’s place, if you fancy a good nose around.

The latest copy of Mollie Makes arrived on Saturday. I do like the magazine, but I think they need a bit more variety in their projects. This is the fourth issue now and there have been a selection of cute things to make from felt in each issue so far. I would like to see something a bit different next month.

I found a tutorial for some monster bookmarks and I’m adapting it so that I can get two out an A5 piece of card. It’ll be one of the ideas in this week’s Friday Five, so check back then if you need some activities to entertain the children during the summer holidays. The re-usable water bombs seem to be the most popular choice from part 1 of Holiday Fun!
