One Photo & Twenty Words

There was only ever one photo I would share today for Abi's lovely meme.

Channelling the Fifties vibe. Polka dots, purple petticoats and......Converse. Well, what else would you wear with your prom dress?

I'm delighted that the dress is getting another outing tomorrow, for my niece's wedding. I'm hoping to tick #1 and #17 off the Scavenger Hunt list while we're there!

What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday #314

I've been flitting between the kitchen table and the ironing board this week. Princess seams finally cracked on Monday and yesterday I marked....

.....pinned.....

.....and sewed the darts.

This morning I've basted the side and shoulder seams, ready for (yet another) fitting when my girl gets home from her History exam. The rest *should* be plain sailing. Let's hope so. Only two weeks to go until prom. Happily, I'm feeling much more confident than I was on Sunday.

Linking up with Julia and the deskers today.

Me on Monday ~ The Doge Edition

We're still embroiled in exam season around here. Another weekend much the same as the last.

Revision and prom dress fitting.....

.....and princess seams. Something new to me and involving a fair bit of trickery to sew. There was so much extra fabric to ease in, I thought I must have cut the pieces in different sizes. I hadn't.

Today you'll find me with a much easier task. Ironing the transfers, drawn by my girl for her friends, onto plain white t-shirts. It's a Shiba Inu, star of an internet meme. No, I'd never heard of it either.

Me on Monday ~ The History Breakfast Edition

Another busy weekend around here. Gone in a flash, as seems to be the case of late. The first day of June already. Really? That meant it was an early morning session in school, ahead of today's History exam, with breakfast laid on. Home in time for elevenses and the usual post mortem. Her brother was keen to know if any of his helpful tips had come in handy, for this, his favourite subject.

It was a tempting my girl to eat (with eggy bread) after a week of feeling poorly....

....receiving this lovely Liberty in the post, to make a dress for my niece's wedding....

....watching the last episode of the season....

....spreading out the fabric on the floor to cut a circular skirt kind of weekend.

How was yours? Waving to Sian on this Monday afternoon, having just made a dash to rescue the washing. I did say it was June, didn't I?!

One Photo & Twenty Words

I took this snap with my phone just now, to document my prom dress progress and thought it would be ideal for Abi’s simple monthly exercise. Choose a picture and tell its story in twenty words or less.

The decision has been made. Sometimes you need to ignore the pattern envelope photo and look at the line drawing.

PS If you are wondering, my girl’s choice is Simplicity 1606, view B, which can be seen in the previous post.

Prom Dress Planning

I shared the fabric my girl chose for her prom dress, a couple of weeks ago and we’ve been hashing out a few ideas together since then.

Her only stipulations were a swishy skirt and it had to be purple or lavender. It’s quite a tricky path to tread. Wanting something grown up, but age appropriate. Something dressy enough, but not over dressed. Something with a full skirt that doesn’t swamp my tiny girl. Something comfortable to wear.

We looked through the pattern books to get some ideas, but nothing was exactly what she had in mind. I ordered a couple of Simplicity patterns, that I thought could be adapted to suit, while they were half price. I had a couple more contenders in my own, ever increasing, collection, including the Ava dress from Victory patterns.

The next job is to take a detailed set of measurements and make a decision. Only six weeks to go until the prom. Not that I’m panicking.

One Photo & Twenty Words

Today I’m joining the lovely Abi of Creating Paper Dreams for her monthly meme. The title says it all. Find a photo and tell its story in twenty words.

The fabric. Chosen this morning, pre-washed and hanging in the sunshine. The next step? Turning it into a prom dress.

I’ll be sure to keep you posted.
