Prom Dress Planning

I shared the fabric my girl chose for her prom dress, a couple of weeks ago and we’ve been hashing out a few ideas together since then.

Her only stipulations were a swishy skirt and it had to be purple or lavender. It’s quite a tricky path to tread. Wanting something grown up, but age appropriate. Something dressy enough, but not over dressed. Something with a full skirt that doesn’t swamp my tiny girl. Something comfortable to wear.

We looked through the pattern books to get some ideas, but nothing was exactly what she had in mind. I ordered a couple of Simplicity patterns, that I thought could be adapted to suit, while they were half price. I had a couple more contenders in my own, ever increasing, collection, including the Ava dress from Victory patterns.

The next job is to take a detailed set of measurements and make a decision. Only six weeks to go until the prom. Not that I’m panicking.

Love the slightly 50s feel to those patterns. My girl wore a beautiful 50s style dress for her birthday 'do' this year.

Swishy is always good! I love that she has a firm idea of what she wants. I have such find memories of making my dress with my Mum at that age. I wore it in 6th Form, but I also got another couple of wears out of it at uni..that's a nice thought, isn't it? She might wear it in years to come too

(tho on second thoughts, they don't recycle clothes the way used too..)
