52 Weeks of {Happy} Mail ~ Starts Today!

The event starts today and this is the envelope I’ve masked, inked and stamped, ready to contain my first piece of happy mail.

A few people have said they like the idea, but couldn’t commit to sending something weekly, which is fair enough. I think it would still be nice to do, even if only on a monthly basis. There’s no need to go to the effort of decorating an envelope, like I have for this week, anything handwritten is acceptable and it doesn’t need to be a handmade card. To me, ‘Happy Mail’ is anything sent with love by a friend.

The Facebook page has reached over 1000 ‘Likes’ now, but there’s still time to add your name.

I’ll be sharing what I’m sending, every week throughout Blogtoberfest, on a Sunday or Monday. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else will be mailing out. If you’re joining in, I’d love to hear from you.

52 Weeks of {Happy} Mail

I recently took part in a Mail Art Exchange, set up by the lovely Ginger. I had to send overseas, so I was mindful of the cost of postage. Not that I’m stingy you understand, just budget conscious! Rather than sticking lots of things to the outside of my envelope and adding to the weight, I decorated it using masks, inks and stamps. I will share my photos of it, as soon as I know it has arrived safely.

I enjoyed myself so much, that I decorated a couple more. I had a plentiful supply of envelopes to recycle, having celebrated a birthday not too long ago. I then saw this project and thought it was a great idea and a logical extension of the Mail Art Exchange. Check out their Facebook page, or read about it here instead.

I’m going to commit to send a piece of handwritten mail every week for the next year. The event starts on October 9th, anyone care to join me?

A few people were interested in the tree stamps on my desk yesterday and with a bit of detective work (I bought them second hand) they turned out to be this set from Kanban.

Tomorrow I’ll be posting Part 4 of my Handmade Gift ideas. Please drop by if you need some inspiration, there are a lot of talented folk out there.

Five Things I’m Loving This Friday ~ Good Mail

I’m really excited to be taking part in Ginger’s Mail Art Exchange this month and while looking around for some ideas and inspiration, I found a few things that I wanted to share.

Envelopes made from magazine pages by Amazing Mae. I can remember doing this when I was at school/college.

Back to school mail in a bottle at Givers Log. There are links to lots of other fun ideas, if you scroll down to the bottom of the post.

Pottery hearts with an address tag. I’m not sure how well these would fare in the hands of Royal Mail!

A pencil case full of bouncy balls. Another fun package to receive, although it was the beautiful stamps that caught my eye on this one.

This is just one of 100 ‘postcards’ sent over the course of two years. A very inventive collection, although there are a few I wouldn’t have wanted to see on my doormat!

I haven’t lost count, but there is just one more website I wanted to share with you. Mail Art across the World has some wonderful galleries full of envelopes where the main focus is the beautiful calligraphy. Enjoy.
