Memorandum Monday ~ A Referendum

There was great excitement in our house last week. My boy is passionate about politics and he was entitled to vote for the very first time on Thursday. We walked to the polling station together, in the evening sunshine, to make our marks.

Sadly, our buoyant mood was short lived. We woke the next morning to find that we were in the minority.

I feel social media must be navigated with care in the coming days and weeks.

A subdued wave to Sian and the Mondayers today.

  1. I like those pavers, their message is SO right. Ah yes there are so many experts out there giving advice ... difficult times either side of the vote.

  2. I've never felt so emotionally affected by the results of a vote. i think we're in for turbulent times for a while. My children can't quite believe it and are seriously worried for the implications for their future.
After last night's football too, it feels like we are well overdue some good news!

  3. My daughter had her first vote here. She has found it difficult because of the reaction of some of her peers to her vote. There are some very unnecessary comments on social media and some very biased reporting. There we are enough on that! Have a good week Fiona!

  4. You know how upset and sad I am at this, and I'm trying really hard to stay positive and also, like you, I'm being very careful on social media xxx

  5. We are used to some turbulent campaigns and unexpected results here, but this has taken the experience to a whole new level, that's for sure.

  6. You are probably right about social media, it will do nothing to calm the situation.

  7. I don't envy you having to deal with the aftermath of that vote. I'm dreading the presidential election here in November. I don't care for either candidate and can only imagine the fall-out further polarizing the opinions of people here. Ugh.

  8. I feel your subdued-ness - life is certainly going to be a roller coaster for the next few years. Trying to find positivity and silver linings in it all but failing big time at the moment.
