It’s World Book Night later this month. On their website there is an ever changing list of 100 books, from which they have chosen 25 titles to give away on the 23rd. The master list was compiled by asking people to submit their own list of 10 favourite books.
I have agonised over this many times and never been able to limit myself to just 10 titles. However, I have read a lot of the books on the list and thought I would share a few favourites from there. But….I still couldn’t pick only 10! In the end I just grabbed a random selection from my bookshelves and here they are…..
…..in no particular order:
- Rebecca ~ Daphne Du Maurier
- Chocolat ~ Joanne Harris
- The Time Traveler’s Wife ~ Audrey Niffenegger
- Birdsong ~ Sebastian Faulks
- His Dark Materials ~ Philip Pullman
- Tess of the d’Urbevilles ~ Thomas Hardy
- The Lord of the Rings ~ J R R Tolkien
- One Hundred Years of Solitude ~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez
- The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time ~ Mark Haddon
- The Secret History ~ Donna Tartt
Can you pick just 10 favourites?
Um, no! I don't think I could. I do love Curious Incident. Brilliant book
ReplyDeleteHave picked 10 for this post before but afterwards I kept thinking I should have picked this or that. So hard. Some good ones there and some I need to read.
ReplyDeleteThis is also an impossible task for me but I always enjoy reading others' picks. The only one I have read from your list is the Dog in the night one!
ReplyDeleteI looked at their list of 30 books and they have a lot I haven't read so I guess I better get busy. I must read very obscure books or something....LOL
ReplyDeleteI have read all the books on your list except The Time Traveler's Wife. Philip Pullman's...His Dark Materials...that is definitely the genre I like to read and I had heard so much positive feedback about it but after the first two books I just couldn't be bothered to finish the third. I have left them for now and will go back to read them again later.
Oh that would be a very tough assignment! Many of my favorites are young adult and children's books but Rebecca is one of my very favorites :)
ReplyDeleteIt would be hard to pick just 10! I love books toooo much!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd find it really hard to pick just 10!!
ReplyDeleteI have only read one from your list - Tess of the D'ubervilles back when I did Return of the Native for my a level English. I would find it so hard to pin myself down to just 10 books LOL!!

Definitely not! I love The Time Traveller's Wife. I think I need to read The Curious incident... what an intriguing title!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen someone's bookshelves and just known that you'd get on in real life? There's a few of my all time favourites in that list of yours and a couple that I've still not managed to find time for - I'll definitely be giving them a go though. It looks like we have similar taste :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't restrict myself to ten either - though I'd be with you on the Northern Lights trilogy ...
ReplyDeleteI am having a hard time selecting my top 10 too! I am just such a book worm and have so many books I love! I got a kindle for my birthday the other day and already have 30 something books on it and that doesn't include the 9 books I got for my birthday either lol. I have only read His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman and The Lord of the Rings from your list of books. I definitely want to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night, my husband borrowed it from a friend and read it and said it was very good :)
ReplyDeleteI would have a difficult time picking ten favorite books!
ReplyDeleteFrom your list, I really enjoyed the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Time Traveler's Wife.
It so hard to pick out favorite books, there are so many that are wonderful... but you picked some good books!
ReplyDeleteI had a really hard time picking 10 favorites. I ended up splitting the books into categories and seeing your list makes me rethink mine. I loved Curious Incident. What a splendid dilemma to be faced with...not being able to pick 10 favorites. It is wonderful to have loved so many books. :)
ReplyDeleteDon't think I could pick ten either..but I'm with you on the Phillip Pullman trilogy...and Time Traveller's Wife!
