I bought this lovely soft needlecord, from a friend at my sewing group, with the Lisette Traveler dress in mind. Love that cherry print.
I pulled this fabric from my stash, to make a shirtdress from the Sixties pattern in my previous post. In my head it was a lightweight denim in the perfect shade of blue. I got the colour right but the weight is wrong. Not enough substance for the style. I'm sure I can find something else to suit, but first....coffee.
The pliers are for fixing snaps, if I chicken out of making all those button holes!
Linking up with Julia and the Deskers on this wet Wednesday morning.
I'm sure you'll find something to do with the blue fabric. I always told myself that one of these days I might get my sewing machine out again, then I discovered art journaling! Sarah #13
ReplyDeleteButtonholes! My dread at school. I spent so much time on them when I sat my GCE that I nearly didn't finish the piece! I have a machine that makes them now ..... but still not good at them.
ReplyDeleteLove that cherry material, should look good made up in the design.
Take care and have a good week

We were only saying yesterday when we passed the girls' old school how many hours we have gained in a week since the school run stopped. Do I use them any mor constructively? Probably not! Three hours a dy is a lot and a lot of fuel. I guess the end is in sight now. One and a bit more terms? Enjoy the opportunity to do a little more sewing.
ReplyDeleteYou are cleverer than me even attempting a dress! I love that denim material - can't wait to see what you do do with it...& enjoy those extra hours in your day!!!
ReplyDeleteGoodness that's a school run and a half. You certainly put your extra time to good use.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week

I love the cherry needlecord, it looks perfect for the dress pattern. And I have to say I think the pliers are a great idea - I hate buttonholes but have a rather weird desire to include some in an embroidery I'm doing - I shall probably do one and come to my senses!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your extra hours today and I hope you have a great week,

That Lisette looks like the perfect wear every day dress. I hope you show us a picture when it's done because you have me thinking about putting down the knitting needles and plugging in the machine instead.
ReplyDeleteA shirt dress?! That pattern looks a very comfortable dress style - umm she (me) says aloud, ummm. Oh too bad about the denim. Be brave with the buttom holes :)
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern and fabrics.....it's good to see others sewing too. Hope we get to see it finished too.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a creative week.

You choose fabrics for yourself so well. Love that dress too, and am impressed that you have a buttonhole substitute, but hey - you can so them! Gosh, a three hour extension to your day - your accomplishments will be awesome. I would be on the sofa with coffee for at least 2.5 of them!
ReplyDeleteHi Fiona. That cherry print is just lovely - hope you enjoy making it up into that dress.
ReplyDeleteTake care. God bless.

I have been admiring the dress making gung-ho with you and Kyla! I am very impressed that you will be making that dress, it looks quite complicated. I think snaps would be what I'd do - anything to wriggle out of buttonhole making, lol!!!

Cute dress! I have a bunch of old patterns in a drawer that I'm always saying I will make up - but fabric is so expensive these days. It was much easier back when I was a teen, and it WAS actually cheaper to make your own clothes! Hopefully you will show us the finished dress! Thanks for sharing, Lindart #35
ReplyDeletewow that is some school run!! great dress making! Helen #1
ReplyDeleteThat needlecord is lovely and a shirtdress is timeless isn't it. Hope it goes well - I think buttonholes are fine if you have an automatic buttonholer on your machine but I might be tempted to put poppers instead too!! x Jo
ReplyDeleteCoffee helps with all decisions. Looking forward to seeing your creation in progress
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad about the blue fabric since, I agree, it seems like a perfect choice for that pattern which is timeless! I'm sure you'll find just the right thing for it.
ReplyDeleteGreat pattern .... you can never go wrong with a shirt dress.

That cherry fabric is gorgeous! Now that I'm so close to my goal weight and size I can't wait to start making some clothes for me :)
ReplyDeleteI liked your shift-dress pattern very much - I love straight, simple clothes. And your needlecord fabric is lovely. It's going to be very striking. I've just been looking at some Liberty needlecord and now need a pattern!
