I have something super exciting to share with you all today. Well, it is to me!
When I was a little girl, my lovely Gran had a sewing machine just like this one. Sadly, when she passed away, in my mid twenties, my Granddad got rid of it, along with pretty much everything that belonged to her. I would have loved to have her machine, but this is the next best thing.
I've been keeping a look out for a while now. They come up on ebay fairly regularly, but it's a bit of a gamble when you can't try before you buy. I asked questions and not all sellers replied. I took that as a hint to avoid them! This one came from a sewing machine shop and has been fully serviced so I was happy to pay a little more for that peace of mind.
I'm familiarising myself with the instruction manual, before I start experimenting later today. I can't wait!
Linking up with Julia and the deskers and looking forward to seeing some of you, in person, on Saturday. I'll be bringing Lemon Drizzle.
well that looks great! I'd love a machine, just for stitching on card and mixed media stuff, not making clothes or anything, but there isn't a space I could put one to be had round here... see you Saturday- looking forward to the cake!! Helen 3
ReplyDeleteGreat vintage sewing machine, have loads of fun with it.

ReplyDeleteHello Fiona. have a great day playing with that machine - enjoy your find. Have a great time on Saturday, too. Sounds like it is going to be its usual fun-filled chaos...
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting already.
Take care. God bless.

Great find Fiona! Shame you couldn't have your grandma's machine - it would have added sentimental value. Still, you can think of her every time you use this machine! Enjoy your play and make something awesome! zsuzsa @ InkyDinkyDoodle #22
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! "Health to wear" as we say round here, usually about a new piece of jewellery..maybe this should be "health to make things to wear"?
ReplyDeleteI love stitching on layouts etc. I have no talent on a sewing machine myself but have been tempted to buy a cheap one to give it a go. I'm so clumsy I'd probably sew my fingers down!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you got a machine which triggers such lovely memories x
What a fun machine....there really is nothing like the old machines is there?
ReplyDeleteHave a great time on Sat....alas I can't join you as I will be at Phoebe's 7th birthday party and being entertained by a magician....what fun :-)
Hugs,

There's nothing like a good old fashioned machine is there - my mum's just keeps going and going! It looks like you've got yourself a good one there, I hope you have many hours of fun using it. Thanks for the visit just now, hope you have a great week,

Awww, how lovely to find that machine! You'll enjoy using that for your projects because of all the memories :-) Well done for reading the manual first too, lol...of course I do that when faced with new equipment....cough....
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Saturday very much! I must go sort out that fusible fleece while I think of it :-)

Oh my, aren't Berninas the Rolls Royce of the sewing world? Delighted your persistence has paid off, and you'll be able to do all kinds of marvelous things on it. I saw a mixed media arts teacher sew cheerfully through flannel and card without a hitch. Exciting!
ReplyDeleteHow fun. I hope you find it easy to use.
ReplyDeleteYou lucky girl! Bernina's are very good machines and even old ones, when they have been serviced, should give you years of pleasure. Better keep that address of the sewing machine shop as they are golddust nowadays.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have have much fun!
Have a fun week playing with your new 'toy'.
Lisca
Lovely machine, no wonder you are super excited. Hope you have many happy hours of using it.

Hi Fiona, what a fantastic find. Patience clearly paid off there. I must admit, me and my sewing machine are barely on nodding terms, lol. I still have to get the manual out to thread it, so you can tell how often it gets used. Looking forward to Saturday, see you then, have a great week, hugs, Shaz.xxx
ReplyDeleteHow FUN! You were wise to avoid the non-responsive eBay sellers - glad you finally found your machine and enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteOh that is wonderful! I think that's the brand all the PBS sewing shows use too. Your story makes me even more thankful that my father-in-law gave me my mother-in-law's very old Singer sewing machine in the cabinet. It does need a little servicing, but I want to use for simple stitching, it's so special. And I want my daughter to have it someday. Have fun with your toy. Happy WOYWW! Sandy Leigh #39
ReplyDeleteI'll look forward to seeing what you make with you new sewing machine. Happy woyww Jill #45
ReplyDeleteLEMON DRIZZLE!!!!! Oh! yes! I remember that!
ReplyDeleteSorry I won't be there to share but enjoy!
Take care

Hi Fiona,
ReplyDeleteYay! Congratulations on finding a machine that reminds you of your grandmother. My mom had a turquoise-looking Morse sewing machine. I loved that machine. I'm sure it was sold in a yard sale at some point.
Thank you for visiting me already!
Happy WOYWW
Hugs, Kay (40)
Aww Good for you. That looks to be in good condition and from a shop...you should be fine!!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Saturday. Still not sure what to take with me though!!
BTW you cannot see the crapalaunch to the left of my desk!! I just pushed everything out of the way!

Oh lovely! I am happy for you! I got a sewing machine at the beginning of this year and then bought another in the summer! I am totally into it! I hope you enjoy it too! See you at the crop! Thank you for commenting on my blog!
ReplyDeleteLots of hugs,
Cardarian
oooo! Nice machine! Looking forward to seeing more of your makes. Good thinking getting it from a shop - it's all serviced and should run nicely. My Mum has a really old Bernina, and when we took into the shop to be serviced, the shopkeeper commented on how reliable it is, and she should not change it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky find! I wish you lots of fun with it!

It's a shame that your granddad got rid of all of your gran's things. That looks like a lovely machine, I can't wait to see what you make on it x
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasant memory of your grandma. And you got a book with the machine. That alone was probably worth paying a bit more for. Creative Blessings with your new toy. Kelly #41
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you managed to get your dream machine
ReplyDeleteOh do have fun with it! I think some of the older machines are so much better than the new ones that seem to break as soon as you look at them. I have a friend who has her mother's machine and nice new one - which one does she use the most? - Her mother's. The new one only gets used when she needs/wants some special thing it has.
