The mechanic has gone to work, the lunches are packed and breakfast cleared away. The children are ready and my boy is having his 15 minute chill out before he walks to school. That gives me enough time to pin on my waistband and write this.
All thanks to my new sewing machine cabinet/table. Whenever I have a few minutes to spare I can get the next bit ready to sew. It’s working well for me. I started this skirt on Friday (if you’re an Instagram friend, you’re no doubt sick of the sight of it by now!) and I’m on the home stretch. Hoping to have it finished tomorrow.
At the back you can see the next skirt, in my six pattern plan, cut out ready to go.
I probably would have been done by now, if I hadn’t procrastinated so long over that pesky zip. Managed it on the second attempt, although I ended up turning it inside out and sewing from the zip side rather than the top. Never mind, it’s in.
That’s me for today. Time to wave off my boy and chivvy my girl. Want to see what the other deskers have been up to? You can find them all at Julia’s place.
PS. If you visited last week and were interested in what that stamped panel turned into, you can find the gift box here, along with a quick tutorial.
Wow, you are just zipping ahead :). That cabinet sounds wonderful for being able to move things along. And I admire anyone who can get a blog post done in fifteen minutes before the school run!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to sound like my mother here when I say..the next zip will be easier and the one after that you won't even think about! (that's the theory, anyway)It looks really good
ReplyDeleteI'm with Sian! I was trembling the first time I did a zip and now it's just another thing to do while sewing, no biggie! I like that bright red material that's going to be your lining...I saw a skirt very much like that in Seasalt in Marlborough yesterday..you're on trend!
ReplyDeleteHugs, LLJ 13 xx
It's looking fabulous. I really admire anyone who can properly sew. I have good intentions but very wonky lines :P
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by to see me already with your lovely words.

You're doing amazing with your sewing. I keep putting it off for fear of stitching myself to a project. I did that before! Take care Zo xx 44
ReplyDeleteHave a dedicated sewing spot sure makes a difference in what you get done! My boys keep bringing me things that need simple seams sewed closed or a rip mended..but my sewing maching is BURIED so the pile gets bigger and bigger :P Happy WOYWW. Shel@PaperOctilloStudio #54
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have faced your fears on the pesky zip front - they make me nervous as hell too !!

When you've done a couple of zips you will wonder why you ever worried abou them. But they were the one thing that my pupils used to find most difficult and it doesn't help that there are different ways to put them in depending on where they are going.
ReplyDeleteI think you have made a brilliant job of this one. Have a great woyww and happy crafting, Angela x 30
I admire anyone who can sew, what a fun project.

You've probably done another one by now!! thanks for visiting yesterday. Helen #5
ReplyDeleteWell done on getting the zip in. I've got a lot of projects that have reached procrastination point and I really must get on with them :) x
ReplyDeleteOh lordy I do HATE zips. They go bad so often and repairing them is a massive pain in the rear! I've done more than a few and still struggle. Looking good, so maybe you've tamed the zipper-beast and I can bring all my broken zipper items to the WOYWW crop for you and Jan to fix for me LOL!
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW!

The one thing that puts me off of making my own clothes is zips!! I've only ever done one before and that was at school in the skirt that took me two years to make. One teacher and twenty pupils, I just never could hold my hand up higher than the rest for help and wasn't vocal enough to be heard. Still baby steps, I have mastered the tissue covers, so maybe I could now consider moving onto something easy like a simple tunic top. Look forward to seeing your finished skirt and great that you now have somewhere that you can leave your stuff out!!
ReplyDeleteI find sewing fascinating in that you start with a flat of fabric and next thing you know you have a garment that you created. It sounds like you have the perfect set up for it now. Thanks for visiting earlier and happy WOYWW. Judy #58
ReplyDeleteHi Fiona, I'm amazed at how much you fit in to each week! You must never stop, lol. Love the blue of the skirt. Running late this week, it sort of ran away from me,lol.Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz# 11 xx
