Here we are. Wednesday again already. In fact last Wednesday passed me by. Not much crafting was going on around here. The Mechanic had a week off work and we got a few niggly jobs done around the house and had a couple of days out.
This week it’s been a case of grabbing the table when I can. When it’s not full of Summer Art projects, or games of Carcassonne, or sometimes even food. This was actually Monday afternoon while I was cooking dinner. I managed to get the pieces cut (and find the right length zips) for a couple of different things I want to make….
….and this was yesterday afternoon, again while cooking dinner. I’m trying to get over my fear of zips and find the best way to sew them on some smaller projects. I find it quite tricky to get the stitching an even distance away from the teeth on both sides, but I’m getting better as I get used to the foot on this machine. Hoping to get another chance at the table, later today, to finish it off.
For now, it’s over to Julia’s to join the party. See you there.
Ah, the zip foot - a blessing and a curse! I am getting better at using it but a successful outcome is definitely not a given! Do you tack your zips in before you sew? I know I'm supposed to, but I just wing it with pins....cough... ;-)

I have a sewing machine lurking under my craft desk somewhere! I have to admit I'm a little scared of it and have only learnt very basic sewing so good on you for practising!

Now where was it and in which magazine recently about zips. Oh Fi, when it comes to me I'll share it with you. But the article was very good, as I too was really struggling with zips on the seat pads I made recently.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to practise on smaller items! Good luck:)
ReplyDeleteYes Fi, that's right , it was in the Love Sewing magazine. Good luck
ReplyDeleteZips. My nemesis. I think that's why I have enjoyed doing quilt squares :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!
Well done on the zip phobia. I still haven't attempted one...
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday

So far I have never had to put a zip in, in fact I avoid a pattern that has a zip LOL!! So well done for practising. Maybe I ought to try something simple like a cushion cover and see how I get on!!
ReplyDeletePretty makes going on. I know what you mean about holidays, seems so much going on even when we're supposed to be chilling!! Take care Zo xx 57
ReplyDeleteI can't even manage to sew in a straight line, so it looks to me like you are doing an amazing job with those zips!

Well done for tackling zips - you're a braver woman than me! Take care, Chris # 5

Use of zips is what has always thrown me when sewing! I can never get them to sit straight. I do have a zipper foot, I think I'm just zip challenged, lol. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #17 xxx

ReplyDeleteLove your pretty material, are making anything special or just perfecting the zip techniques.
