I’m sharing a moment for March, along with Alexa over at Trimming the Sails.
I stand at the sink, hands plunged into the warm water, admiring my lovely daffs on the windowsill. I can almost believe that Spring is on its way.
We had a late drive home, after celebrating our niece’s eighteenth birthday with her. Much later bedtimes than our norm, but me and my girl were still up at our usual hour. I don’t think either of us is fully awake, but home work and chores have commenced. Good to get them out of the way, while it’s quiet. The dishes for me, a work sheet on semi colons and commas for her.
She has my habit of reading the sentences aloud, to hear where the pause should be, before deciding on the punctuation. “If it rains this afternoon, I’ll catch the bus home.” I smile to myself as I listen to her. Then comes the corker. “Istanbul, which is not the capital of Turkey, used to be called Concertinapole.” We both dissolve into fits of laughter, until our sides are aching. As I suspected, not quite awake yet.
PS This was last Saturday, but I’m still laughing as I read it again!
And I am laughing too! What a quiet scene of concentration you painted until the eruption of merriment. Still smiling as I type. Thank-you so much for linking in this month again, and it has been a most enjoyable visit. I will think of you both anytime this city is mentioned, for a long time to come :).
ReplyDeleteOh! what a beautiful moment of quiet companionship, I was thinking, and then you made me laugh! Love it, love, love it, Concertinapole! a great word.
ReplyDeleteThat's a brilliant one to be remembered forever.
ReplyDeleteI could do with a worksheet on semi colons. I have a suspicion I use far too many of them!
We had a refresher lesson in semi colons a while ago at work and since then the office is awash with them! Love that story, I'm sure you'll remind her of that for years to come.
ReplyDeletelol...bless! And because of Alexa's simple a moment it's one that's recorded too x x
ReplyDeleteGreat story! You made me smile. :o)

Love it! I always just guess for semi-colons, or leave them out all together ... I suspect I may not have been paying attention in that class.
ReplyDeleteOh that's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteBless - what a lovely glimpse into your home. TFS
ReplyDeleteYou sound like a very conscientious household - all those chores being tackled first thing! And what a nice happy moment to record.
ReplyDeleteThose daffodils are lovely and I so enjoyed your daughter's "read aloud." What a fun way to practice grammar.
ReplyDeleteCheers~
That is so funny and a brilliant moment :)
