What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday #212

This is what my kitchen table looked like yesterday, before I cleared it for dinner.

My visitors often comment how tidy my workspace is, which always makes me smile, because I am such an untidy person. When I had a permanent desk, it would get piled up with all kinds of clutter throughout the week. I don’t get the chance now, because around here, everything stops for tea.

The pinwheel/windmill from last week made it onto a card, which you can see here, if you’re so inclined. I know there’s not much time to get around a whole host of desks on a Wednesday, without clicking on links and getting distracted. Perhaps that’s why I never get very far.

I mentioned ‘no-reply’ bloggers, in my post on Monday. It might just be a very small bugbear of mine. When somebody asks a question, I like to be able answer them, if I can. When their comment comes through (more and more often it seems) without a return email address attached, it’s much trickier to do that.

I could leave a comment on their blog, if they have one, but sometimes their profile is ‘unavailable to view’. I could answer them in my own comments, but that could easily be missed. How often do you go back and re-read comments on a previously visited blog post?

Of course not everyone knows that they are a ‘no-reply’ blogger. So how do you check? The easiest way is probably to leave a comment on your own blog. When the email notification comes through you can see if it’s possible to reply via email. Alternatively go to your blogger profile and it will say ‘contact me’ or ‘email’ and if it is not a clickable link then you are a ‘no-reply’ blogger.

The good news is, it’s easily fixed, if you want it to be. I appreciate that there are some folk who may not want to share an email address and it’s a deliberate choice. However there are quite a few people who I’m sure I used to be able to answer and now I can’t. In those cases I think Blogger is just messing with us!

I was going to write some instructions and then I found these and Eva explains it much better than I could. With pictures, which are always good.

Oh dear, that was a very long post for a Wednesday! Sorry Julia. Hope it’s useful to some of you. Part of blogging for me, is about connecting with other like minded folk and it’s so much easier to do that with an email address. Enjoy your day.

  5. Hurray for addressing this because I find it frustrating too. I'm very happy to answer questions, but sometimes it isn't easy!

  6. I confess I don't always go back, I don't like to share my email on here so I just hope people leave me a comment on my blog if they want to know something. I think I'm a no-reply-er but not sure but I do know there is a reply button with my comments. Hmmm not sure that's it! Take care Zo xx 75

  9. mmm, I don't know what I am. I do know my email and blog are available and clickable...so that would be ok then I guess. I hardly ever go back to a post to check if there is a reply and the pop up window for commnets in blogger doesn't allow me to reply to comments on my own posts.

I find it all a bit confusing and just try to let it go.

Happy WOYWW and I wish you a wonderful week.
    xx

  10. Confess I am still learning about all this - it takes ages, doesn't it - especially for one like me of great advanced age. I know people can leave messages on my blog - well, most folk can - and then I get back through Julia's site if they leave a number. If they don't....I'm stuffed. Must read the hints and tips..
    Have a good week.

  14. I was finding it frustrating as well, for the most part now I reply directly connected to the comment, if they have an attached email it goes to them.

  15. Great post and a problem we all face using Blogger. I have used e-mails for questions. Thye are always answered too, sometimes much easier than leaving a question in the comment section.

  18. I am totally with you on the no reply emails. Drives me crazy, because of it can make it so hard to get in touch with people. As to your workdesk, well when I compare it to photos of mine underabout a foot of stuff, it looks spotless!

Thank you so much for visiting and happy WOYWW,
    Cheers, Rachel #53

  19. I found your blog via WOYWW, I really enjoyed reading through your blog. I started following you. :) I am new to WOYWW, and new to a few other blog challenges. I love the "no-reply" post. Speaking for myself, I never stopped to think about my info when leaving a comment. Great food-for-thought!!! My work desk, which is actually my coffe table, is never tidy when I'm working, I have organized chaos. P.S. I'm #145 on the WOYWW linky list. (((HUGS)))

  26. Am I ok if I have my email addie on my blog? As a button?
Thanks for the comprehensive "know how" which I will look at later. I get annoyed when numbers are not shown and I go to a profile which shows they have four or five blogs - so much time to wade through them.
Funny how we all have our little pet grumbles.
I thought it was good that I didn't have to tidy my desk for meals but now I realise it would make me a tidier person. Mmmmm - food for thought!
Hugs, Neet xx 13 (late as usual)
