What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday? #194

Not much crafting happening around here, with it being half term this week.

P1020537

On my kitchen table, the parcel I just picked up from the sorting office. Customs charges to pay, which I have no problem with. I do object to the £8 charge the Post Office stick on top and all for the privilege of collecting your own mail. I wanted 4 yards of rabbits to back an Adventures with Alice quilt and couldn’t source it here.

Good thing it was on sale at a bargain $5 a yard. If you’ve ever bought quilting fabrics in the UK, you’ll know they are around £12 per metre here. I made sure I put as much as possible in the envelope for the shipping fee and added a couple of yards of the green and yellow to make a summer skirt.

That’s it from me. Lots more to see at Julia’s Place.

  1. Yes, the handling fee is way over the top! Still sounds like a great price though

  2. Couldn't agree more! It annoys me that some stuff you can't get over here, yet if you get it from abroad, and its over a ridiculously low price level, they charge you import duty AND then charge you for them to collect the duty! It wouldn't be so bad if they threshold for the duty was set at a sensible level for cost of living now, but I swear it was set back in the 60's, and has never been reviewed! Rant over, lol.Have a great week,Hugs, Shaz #91 xx

  5. £8!! That's outrageous......suppose it's still cheaper than buying 4 metres for £48 though.....sigh.... They are both gorgeous fabrics however, can't wait to see what your skirt looks like!
Do you think we might end up in a fabric shop next Monday perchance???? Grin.........

  7. I wouldn't care if they were running at a loss but they aren't. Those charges are way beyond! What gets me is the £1 plus whatever for a letter. Could be a business letter of no use. Oh heck, don't get me going.

  8. Postage charges actually PAIN me! It annoys me when we can't source stuff here and then get charged for the privilege! Well done for getting so much in the envelope!

  9. Quite happy to pay the tax but the handling fee is a ridiculous amount to pay for them just to stick a label on the packaging and put a card through the door with our normal post.

Enjoy crafting with the fabric and would love to see the finished article.

  14. To bad we can't just send it over the web and then you could just print it yourself. Save those nasty mailing fees. Happy WOYWW.

  15. I think it's awful that the post office charge a handling fee for you to collect the parcel! Love the material x

  16. That is discraceful to hear horrible news like that, how dare they charge you more, you should be charing them for not delivering it when you have already paid for it at the other end. I hope the material is worth it, the fabric looks lovely.

    Happy WOYWW

  18. Good grief, that sounds excessive :(. You could understand it perhaps if they had to bring it to you, not the other way round! Hoping that the fabric is just what you want and you have fun using it.
