So another week has flown by and I have been a very bad blogger. It was my son’s birthday yesterday and there was a chocolate cake to make, presents to wrap and Skaven Clanrats to track down.
My desk is full of the fabric I bought last week. Some unbleached calico to line the Cath Kidston bag with. I decided I didn’t want raw seams inside it, so didn’t make it up when I first got the book, probably about a year ago now!
Some nice bright cottons to have a go at making a bag and pencil case for my daughter. I had a hunt through my sewing box for some matching threads and I found a turquoise that will do (no idea what project I bought that for) and some purple thread that was left over from making this dress, many years ago.
I’m all set for a bit of a sewing this afternoon, once I get back from pilates and coffee with a new friend.
Pop over to Julia’s place if you want to see what it’s all about.
Love the purple dress story! It would be fantastic to pass that on to your daughter. Hope you enjoy your day, it sounds lovely.

t'will look lovely lined, if you want look up how to do a 'run and fell' seam - it looks good both sides and neatens the seams - super strong - perfect for bags and half the fabric cost...

ReplyDeleteOooh those fabrics look lovely altogether. I've got that book too but I've never opened it!

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely dress. Hope you managed to get some sewing done this afternoon - I've got that book too, never made anything from it, just drool and think about how I really need sewing lessons! Thanks for popping by my desk.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a wonderful day planned with lots of pretty fabric :) Thank you for your comment on my blog, you asked what Saskatoon berries are. They look similar to a blueberry but have a unique flavor, they for the most part can be found in the wild on the Canadian prairies, but there are many farms that sell them near where I'm from. They make beautiful pies :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the sewing. Hope we get to see the results :-)

Your first sewing creation was a triumph and you looked lovely in it. Good to see the fabrics piled up on your desk ... so you did continue sewing!

Loved the story of the purple dress which still looks bang up-to-date to me and I do hope your daughter finds the opportunity to wear it too. I had to google Skaven Clanrats - clearly, I'm way out of touch! Hope your son enjoyed his birthday. Love the fabrics on your table and look forward to seeing the completed CK bag.
