What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday? #251

I missed last week, due to way too much going on around here. I knew I wouldn’t have time to visit anyone. Some of the teachers are striking today, which means I have my girl home with me. Because he has AS Level exams coming up very soon, by boy has to go, much to his disgust and her delight!

My desk is in a pickle. I’m continuing my task of matching patterns/ideas with fabric and making a note of what is needed to complete the garment/project. There may be a pretty notebook involved. Thanks Jess.

I probably should have cleared all the paper crafting stuff away first, rather than just dumping the fabric and sewing paraphernalia on top, but where would be the fun in that? Strike while the iron’s hot.

On the subject of ironing, you can probably see the bottle of Mary Ellen’s Best Press there on the right. I’ve seen it mentioned on quilter’s blogs and thought I’d give it a try. It’s supposed to get out those annoying creases from the fabric being folded on the bolt and receives glowing reviews all over the web. Perhaps my iron (or my technique) is rubbish, but it didn’t work for me. The creases are still there.

Head on over to Julia’s place to find a whole host of desks, pickled or otherwise.

PS Still plenty of time to join in with this month’s SIPIDI!, if you want to.

  1. love all the pretty fabric! I had heard about the spray but had not bought any to try. I have an old iron so it probably won't work for me either. A friend just bought a new iron...$200!! Not to iron clothing with but to iron her sewing and steam her hooking and punch needle projects...OMG! too much money for me! Thanks for sharing and have a great week. Vickie #49

  3. You have some gorgeous fabric there, Fiona! It's interesting to see how you have a definite preference for bold graphics..I love them but never seem to buy any. It's colour that gets me, more so than the pattern. Bet the notebook is going to be gorgeous!

  7. Beautiful fabric, love that shade of blue and the pattern. Thought there would be lots of children at the park this morning when I walked the dog but not a one so either all or schools are open or all the kids stayed in bed....mmm, wonder which is right.

  9. The fabrics look gorgeous

Funny, I've been thinking about the creases in my friendship squares. Some people must have really excellent irons!

  22. Oh I'm with you - if the mood strikes, work on top of whatever else you've got out - I must say I'm impressed at your method for matching patterns and fabric and getting the notions together...it speaks of very organised! The fabrics on view are gorgeous too. Hey - I have a SIPIDI, but will prolly get in under the wire on Monday...because it's not quite photo ready...needs a couple more evenings!
